Overview

A microscopic stent for the eye's natural drainage pathway.

The iStent is placed inside the eye's natural drainage pathway during cataract surgery or as a standalone procedure. It helps improve fluid outflow and lower intraocular pressure.

By reducing eye pressure, iStent can help slow or prevent further optic nerve damage and vision loss in patients with mild-to-moderate open-angle glaucoma.

Candidacy

Who this is- and isn't - for.

We don't push the envelope of safety to make you fit a procedure. If you aren't a great candidate, we'll tell you - and recommend the option that is.

A likely fit

You may be a great fit if any of these sound familiar.

  • Adults diagnosed with mild-to-moderate open-angle glaucoma
  • Patients who want to reduce dependence on daily glaucoma drops
  • Patients undergoing cataract surgery who also need glaucoma control
  • Elevated eye pressure despite medications, or medication side effects
Worth a closer look

We may recommend something else if…

  • Glaucoma types where angle-based drainage surgery is not appropriate
  • Advanced disease requiring a more intensive glaucoma procedure
  • Active eye infection or inflammation
  • Eye anatomy that does not allow safe stent placement

None of these are deal-breakers, they're reasons to look at the alternatives. We'll tell you straight at consultation.

Your journey

Your journey to visual freedom.

  1. 0115-20 min
    Step 01

    Comprehensive evaluation

We begin with detailed glaucoma assessment, including IOP measurements, visual field testing, and optic nerve imaging, to determine if iStent is right for you.

  2. 0210 min
    Step 02

    Precise iStent placement

During cataract surgery or as a standalone procedure, a micro-sized stent is inserted into the eye's drainage channel using specialized instruments.

  3. 0315-20 min
    Step 03

    Healing and ongoing care

Because the procedure is minimally invasive, most patients experience little discomfort and can return to normal activities quickly. Follow-up visits ensure IOP remains controlled.

The advantage

Why we choose this approach.

  • Minimally invasive

Tiny device, quick procedure, and minimal tissue disruption.

  • Medication reduction

Many patients reduce or eliminate glaucoma drops after treatment.

  • Long-term IOP control

The device is designed to remain in place and support long-term intraocular pressure control.
