Overview

One procedure that rewrites your relationship with glasses.

By your mid-40s, the natural lens inside the eye starts to stiffen, and reading the menu, the phone, or the dashboard becomes a daily ritual involving glasses. CLR replaces that lens with a premium intraocular lens (IOL) that doesn't age and doesn't cloud.

Modern IOLs are remarkable: extended-depth-of-focus, multifocal, and toric options can give you near, intermediate, and distance vision in a single procedure. And because your natural lens is gone, you will never develop cataracts in that eye.

  • Replaces aging natural lens
  • Distance + intermediate + near in one procedure
  • No future cataracts, ever
  • Permanent and future-proof

How it works

How Custom Lens Replacement works.

  1. 01Step 01

Measure your eye and choose the lens

    Biometry

CLR begins with precise biometry - detailed measurements of your eye's length, curvature, and optics. Together with how you actually use your vision (reading, screens, driving, golf), these measurements determine which premium intraocular lens (IOL) - extended-depth-of-focus, multifocal, or toric - is right for you.

  2. 02Step 02

    Create a micro-incision

    No stitches

On surgery day, numbing drops keep you fully comfortable. Your surgeon makes a tiny self-sealing incision at the edge of the cornea - small enough that no stitches are needed - to access the natural lens.

  3. 03Step 03

    Remove the natural lens

    Ultrasound

Using gentle ultrasound energy (phacoemulsification), the aging natural lens is softened and removed through the micro-incision, while the clear capsule that holds it is left in place to support the new lens. Because the natural lens is gone for good, you can never develop cataracts in that eye.

  4. 04Step 04

    Implant your premium IOL

    Permanent

The custom-selected IOL is folded, inserted through the same tiny incision, and unfolds precisely into position. It corrects distance, intermediate, and near vision - and unlike the natural lens, it never ages, stiffens, or clouds. Most patients see clearly within 24 hours.

Why patients choose this

The reasons that actually matter.

  • Tuned to your life

Lens choice depends on whether you're a reader, a golfer, a screen worker, or all three. We build the plan around your actual day.

  • Eliminates future cataract surgery

Once your natural lens is replaced, cataracts can never form. One procedure handles two eras of eye-care.

  • Fast recovery

Most patients see clearly within 24 hours. Most return to normal life within 2-3 days.

  • Permanent + future-proof

Premium IOLs don't change shape, age, or cloud. The vision you achieve is the vision you keep.

Candidacy

Who this is- and isn't - for.

We don't push the envelope of safety to make you fit a procedure. If you aren't a great candidate, we'll tell you - and recommend the option that is.

A likely fit

You may be a great fit if any of these sound familiar.

  • Ages 40+
  • Tired of reading glasses
  • High Rx LASIK can't fix
  • Early lens changes (pre-cataract)
  • Want permanent + future-proof
Worth a closer look

We may recommend something else if…

  • Young, flexible natural lens
  • Active retinal disease
  • Still a good LASIK candidate
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

None of these are deal-breakers, they're reasons to look at the alternatives. We'll tell you straight at consultation.

Your journey

Your journey to visual freedom.

  1. 60-90 min
    Step 01

    Comprehensive consult

We assess your prescription, lens flexibility, retina, and lifestyle to determine which IOL technologies fit your eyes.

  2. Same visit
    Step 02

    IOL selection

Together we choose the lens that fits your vision goals, distance-only, multifocal, extended-depth, toric, or a combination.

  3. 15-20 min/eye
    Step 03

    Surgery day

Lens removal and replacement takes about 15-20 minutes per eye. Most patients have one eye done, then the other 1-2 weeks later.

FAQ

The questions we hear most.

Don't see your question? Call us at 214-972-2020 or book a free consultation.

  • Is CLR the same as cataract surgery?
It uses the same surgical technique, but it's elective - the natural lens is replaced before a cataract forms. The advantage: you get refractive correction now and never develop cataracts later.
  • Will I be free of glasses after CLR?
Most patients dramatically reduce or eliminate glasses dependence. Premium multifocal IOLs offer the best chance of being completely glasses-free; monofocal options give crisp distance with reading glasses for near tasks.
  • How does CLR compare to LASIK?
LASIK reshapes the cornea and works best for younger patients with healthy lenses. CLR replaces the lens itself - the better answer for ages 40+, high prescriptions, or early lens changes.
  • Are there risks?
CLR is among the most refined intraocular procedures in modern medicine, but every surgery has risks. Dr. Shehz reviews them in detail at your consultation, including the rare ones.
  • How much does CLR cost?
Pricing depends on which IOL technology fits your eyes. See our Affordability page for full payment options including FSA/HSA and financing.

Other options

Not the right fit? Here's what else we offer.

Picking the right procedure is a diagnosis question, not a marketing one. If your eyes are better served by a different path, we'll tell you.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

See what better vision looks like. At any stage of life.

Reaching for your glasses on the nightstand. Fighting contacts at the gym. Watching the menu blur at dinner. These aren't problems to live with anymore, and the only place to find out what's actually possible for your eyes is in the chair.
