The three procedures

Same goal. Different paths to get there.

All three correct refractive error using a laser. What differs is how the cornea is accessed — and that changes who each procedure is best for.

Most popular laser procedure

All-Laser LASIK

Two lasers — femtosecond + excimer — create a precise corneal flap and reshape the surface. Bladeless, 15 minutes, and most patients see 20/20 by the next day.

Best for: Stable prescription, healthy corneas, active lifestyles

Flapless, smaller incision

SMILE LASIK

No corneal flap. A tiny incision removes a disc of tissue — correcting nearsightedness with less disruption to corneal nerves and fewer dry-eye effects.

Best for: Dry-eye sensitivity, mild-to-moderate myopia, contact-sport athletes

Surface-based laser correction

ASA / Advanced PRK

No flap, no incision — the laser reshapes the corneal surface directly. Longer recovery than LASIK, but the right choice when the cornea is too thin or the patient too active for a flap.

Best for: Thin corneas, military and first responders, contact-sport athletes

The honest version

Why we don't discount LASIK

$250-an-eye LASIK ads aren't real — they're bait that turns into a much longer bill once you're in the chair: 'premium' lasers, aftercare programs, enhancement guarantees. We quote one honest, all-in number — with 0% APR financing if you'd rather spread it out.

FAQ

Common questions.

Don't see yours? Call 214-972-2020 or book a free consult.

  • Am I a candidate for LASIK?
Most adults with a stable prescription and healthy corneas qualify for some form of laser correction. The free consultation includes corneal mapping, pachymetry, and a full refraction — those numbers determine candidacy, not a checklist.
  • What's the difference between LASIK and SMILE?
Both reshape the cornea with a laser. LASIK creates a hinged flap first; SMILE removes a disc of tissue through a tiny incision with no flap. SMILE has fewer dry-eye effects and may be better for patients with dry-eye history.
  • Why would someone choose ASA over LASIK?
ASA works on the surface, so it's ideal when the cornea is too thin for a flap or when the patient's career or sport makes a flap inadvisable (military, MMA, football). Recovery takes longer — 3–5 days of blurred vision — but the outcome is equivalent.
  • Does LASIK hurt?
No. Your eyes are numbed with drops before the procedure. You may feel pressure for a few seconds during flap creation, and some patients notice mild irritation or dryness in the first 24 hours.
  • How long does LASIK last?
The corneal reshaping is permanent. Some patients experience minor prescription changes in their 40s as the eye's natural lens stiffens (presbyopia) — but the laser correction itself doesn't wear off.
  • Is LASIK covered by insurance?
No — laser vision correction is elective and not covered by medical or vision insurance. It is fully eligible for FSA and HSA funds, and financing through Cherry or CareCredit is available.

Other options

Not right for LASIK? Other options we offer.

High prescriptions, thin corneas, or age 40+ sometimes point to EVO ICL or lens replacement instead. We'll tell you which at your consultation.
