Why is there such a big price range?
Three things move the number: the technology, the surgeon, and what's bundled in.
Older bladed LASIK is cheaper to deliver than All-Laser LASIK in Plano, where a femtosecond laser creates the flap and an excimer laser reshapes the cornea based on a detailed map of your eye. Newer platforms cost practices real money, and that shows up in the quote.
Surgeon experience matters too. A surgeon who has done thousands of cases prices differently than a center where you never learn who's operating until surgery day.
And then there's the quiet part. Some quotes include your enhancement policy, your drops, and a year of follow-ups. Some quotes include a handshake.
What should a LASIK quote actually include?

What about the $299 per eye ads?
You've probably seen them on a billboard somewhere along the tollway. That price is real, technically, for a tiny prescription range that almost nobody has, on older technology, before the add-ons.
By the time your actual prescription is priced, the number usually lands right back in the normal Dallas-Fort Worth range. The ad did its job, which was to get you in the door.
I don't think the people running those ads are evil. I think they're running a funnel. But you deserve to know you're in one.
Does insurance cover LASIK in Texas?
