The Visionary Doc.
Dr. Shehzad Batliwala, DO, MGM - known to patients as Dr. Shehz and as The Visionary Doc- is a double board-certified vision correction surgeon, and the first Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine accepted into Dean McGee Eye Institute's ophthalmology residency. His path spans NASA research, advanced refractive training alongside pioneers of EVO ICL, and ICL training at the Zaldivar Institute in Mendoza, Argentina, with AI-powered lens sizing referenced for 99% accuracy in fit.
He performs every refractive procedure offered at Visionary Eye - from blade-free LASIK and EVO ICL to premium cataract surgery and the full MIGS family for glaucoma - bringing the rigor of a researcher and the warmth of a family physician to each one. He believes earning your trust is the most important part of doing this work well.
The origin story behind Educate, Don't Sell.
Born in India and raised in the United States, Dr. Shehz came up as an immigrant navigating an uncertain path. That experience shaped his drive, his resilience, and his respect for patients who need clarity before they can move forward. An early fascination with the eye and outer space led him to NASA's Johnson Space Center, where he researched Spaceflight-Associated Neuro-Ocular Syndrome (SANS) - how space travel affects astronauts' eyes.
That intersection of space medicine and ophthalmology shaped the philosophy he calls Educate, Don't Sell: every consultation is a conversation, and every patient should leave informed, empowered, and confident in the decision that is right for them.
Educate, Don't Sell.
The goal is not to push a procedure. It is to help each patient understand their eyes, their options, and the safest path forward.
The heart of Visionary Eye.
These values are shaped by Dr. Shehz's medical mission work and the belief that every patient deserves to feel seen.

We don't push the envelope of safety to make your eyes fit a procedure. The first thing we do at every consultation is rule out the options that aren't right for you - even if that means sending you home without a surgery date.
When the right answer for your eyes is no surgery yet, we say so. When it's a different procedure than the one you came in asking about, we walk you through why. The point isn't to sell you something - it's to help you see clearly, for the rest of your life.
There were so many things to talk about Dr Shehz and his practice overall. But I would like to start with saying we had a wonderful experience going to the Visionary Eye Surgery in Plano. From the day one the way Dr. Shehz and his staff took care of my wife and her needs for vision correction has been tremendous. (read more)

A letter from the founderAn open letter to my patients
I grew up not feeling seen.
Different name. Always a little outside the room. For years I thought the work of a life was to get noticed, to be impressive enough that someone would finally look.
So I chased it in the biggest rooms I could find. Research labs. NASA. The hardest training programs.
None of it filled the gap.
Then I became an eye surgeon, and the work got simple: helping people see.
I’ve done it in operating rooms with every machine money can buy. And in places the world had stopped looking, with nothing to sell. Just a person living in the dark and a narrow window to change that.
I once restored sight to someone who hadn’t seen a face clearly in years. When the patch came off, I understood what my training never taught me: vision was never about an eye chart. It was about being present in your own life, with the people right in front of you.
That’s true for the person in my chair in Plano, too. The patient who “just” wants to stop fighting contacts is asking for the same thing underneath. To be fully here. To not miss their life through a smudged lens.
And somewhere in there, something turned over in me. Helping you see clearly taught me to see myself clearly. The purpose I’d been chasing wasn’t out there waiting to be earned.
It was in the chair across from me the whole time.
It’s you.
So here’s how I work, plainly. You’re not a procedure to me. Not a sale, not a slot on a schedule. Before I say a word about LASIK or lenses, I want to understand your eyes, your life, and what clear vision would give back to you.
And if the honest answer is not yet, or not this one, I’ll tell you. Every time. Even when it costs me the case. Especially then.
Because here’s what I finally understand: you deserve to be seen clearly.
And you deserve to see clearly, too.
See what better vision looks like. At any stage of life.
