The eye is shorter than ideal.
In hyperopia, light focuses behind the retina rather than directly on it. Younger eyes can compensate by flexing the natural lens - but as you age, that flexibility decreases and near vision blurs first.
LASIK can correct mild-to-moderate hyperopia. For higher prescriptions, or for patients in their 40s+ who are starting to lose near focus, Custom Lens Replacement is often the more elegant solution.

The right answer depends on your eyes, your prescription, and your life. Here's what we typically recommend - but the only way to know what fits you is a comprehensive evaluation.
All-Laser LASIK
LASIK corrects mild-to-moderate hyperopia by steepening the central cornea.
ASA / Advanced PRK
Surface-based correction for hyperopia in thin or specific corneal anatomy.
Custom Lens Replacement
The most powerful answer for patients 40+ - corrects hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism in one procedure.
Common questions.
Can LASIK correct farsightedness?
Yes - modern LASIK reliably corrects mild-to-moderate hyperopia. For high prescriptions or patients with developing presbyopia, Custom Lens Replacement may be the better answer. Why is my hyperopia getting worse in my 40s?
What's actually happening is presbyopia - age-related loss of near focus - overlapping with your existing hyperopia. The combination is what makes near tasks suddenly difficult.Should I wait if I'm in my late 30s?
Often yes. If you're approaching presbyopia, Custom Lens Replacement may give a better long-term outcome than LASIK. We'll explain the tradeoffs at your consultation.
