Healthy tears rely on water, oil, and mucin components that work together to lubricate and protect the eye. In evaporative dry eye, the oil layer produced by the meibomian glands may be insufficient or unstable.
When the oil layer is too thin or unstable, tears can evaporate quickly. Artificial tears may relieve symptoms, while persistent gland dysfunction, blepharitis, eyelid inflammation, ocular rosacea, or low tear volume may need a cause-specific plan.

Why don't artificial tears fix my dry eye?
Artificial tears can provide useful relief, but they do not address every cause. Persistent symptoms may need evaluation of tear volume, tear breakup, staining, eyelids, meibomian glands, inflammation, allergy, medications, and contact-lens use.How long does IPL take to work?
Response and treatment schedules vary. Some patients notice change during a treatment series, while others need more time or a different approach because their symptoms are not primarily gland-driven. Follow-up should compare symptoms with repeat surface and gland findings.Can dry eye disqualify me from LASIK?
Significant untreated dry eye can delay or rule out LASIK because it can affect measurements, healing, comfort, and visual quality. Treatment may make measurements more reliable, but candidacy still depends on the full corneal and eye-health evaluation.
