Myopia (Nearsightedness). When distance gets blurry but near stays sharp.
Myopia is the most common refractive error - and the most successfully treated. Most LASIK, SMILE, and EVO ICL patients arrive with a myopic prescription.

The eye is longer than ideal.
Myopia happens when light entering your eye focuses just in front of the retina rather than directly on it. The result: distant objects look blurry while close objects stay clear.
It typically begins in childhood and stabilizes in early adulthood. Once stable, it's eligible for permanent correction with LASIK, SMILE, EVO ICL, or ASA - depending on your prescription, your cornea, and your lifestyle.

The right answer depends on your eyes, your prescription, and your life. Here's what we typically recommend - but the only way to know what fits you is a comprehensive evaluation.
All-Laser LASIK
Reshapes the cornea to focus light on the retina. The most common myopia correction.
SMILE LASIK
Flapless laser correction - ideal for active lifestyles and dry-eye sensitivity.
ASA / Advanced PRK
Surface-based laser correction for thin corneas or contact-sport athletes.
EVO ICL
An implantable lens for high myopia LASIK can't safely correct.
Common questions.
At what age can I get LASIK for myopia?
We typically wait until at least 18 with at least 12 months of stable prescription. Many patients come in their 20s once their prescription has stabilized. Can high myopia be corrected with LASIK?
LASIK has a safe range, typically up to about -10D. For higher prescriptions, EVO ICL is often the safer and more effective answer. We'll tell you which fits your eyes. Will my myopia come back after LASIK?
Most patients enjoy stable corrected vision for decades. A small percentage may experience minor regression that can be addressed with a touch-up. Presbyopia (age-related near-vision changes) is unrelated and develops separately.
